World’s first autonomous vehicle
It usually resides at the Henry Ford Museum, but the Firebird II concept car made an appearance at WCX. It debuted at the 1956 Motorama and is powered by a 200-hp gas turbine and an exhaust-heat recovery system that helped power accessories. To drive on its own, the Firebird drove along a highway containing an embedded “signal-emitting control band” that beamed signals to the car via two-way radio communication.
