The Latest on the resignation of Ron Sandack from the Illinois House (all times local):

9:30 p.m.

A ranking Illinois Republican who resigned from the state Legislature says he has filed a police report over fraudulent social media accounts that he says were set up in his name.

Ron Sandack, the vocal floor leader for the GOP minority in the House, issued his resignation late Sunday, saying in a statement that he began to re-evaluate his role “after some cyber security issues arose.”

The lawmaker from Downers Grove, 20 miles west of Chicago, did not return phone or text messages from The Associated Press on Monday. But he told The Chicago Tribune (http://trib.in/2aqx8zI ) he decided to step down after several fraudulent accounts were set up in recent weeks, adding that politics had become “too ugly.”

Sandack told the Tribune he had filed a report about the issue with the Downers Grove Police Department. Officials at the department would not comment, telling media outlets to file public-records requests for any information.

The House Republican floor leader from Downers Grove issued a statement late Sunday that said he began to “re-evaluate his continued public service” his role “after some cyber security issues arose.” Sandack used Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Sandack also says in the statement released through a House GOP spokeswoman that he is no longer willing to miss important family events.
