The need to reduce government spending has opened the market for non-military-type components to be used on military vehicles. Not all military vehicles require rugged, metal connectors qualified to military specifications. Thus, the APD Series plastic circular connectors can be specified for use in wheeled armored vehicles. These connectors were originally designed to meet the automotive DIN 72585 (now ISO 15170) specification, and are now being specified for use in wheeled armored vehicle applications where military qualifications aren’t required.
“While the inner frame of wheeled armored vehicles incorporates weaponry and radio or drive controls that require military-specified connectors, other applications within the vehicle such as lighting, mirrors, and cooling and heating functions use more cost-effective and lighter plastic connectors,” said Keith Teichmann, for ITT Interconnect Solutions.
The APD Series circular plastic connectors are lightweight, cost-effective, easy to assembly, and offer the additional security of a secondary locking system for high pin counts. The connectors are capable of handling up to 48 V and are available in a range of layouts ranging from 1 to 51 contacts. They are vibration resistant and are sealed to IP67/IP69K ratings. Specified to ISO 15170 standards, the connectors are offered with stamped or machined contacts.
