Nichicon Corporation has released a new line of surface mount electrolytic capacitors called the “UCV series.” This high-capacity, low impedance series is guaranteed to operate for 2,000 hours at 105°C. The UCV series is ideal for meeting the high-performance, compact size requirements of today’s home appliances and transportation applications.
As the demand for higher-density PCB’s increases in consumer electronics and other electronic modules, SMD capacitors are becoming the main choice of design engineers. This demand is being driven by more compact products that require higher performance. This is pushing the demand for smaller capacitors with higher capacitance and low impedance. The UCV series uses Nichicon’s advanced technology thin cathode foils and thin electrolytic paper which combine to achieve this high capacity SMD capacitor. This higher capacitance in a small package will allow the designer to utilize fewer parts on the PCB and maintain the same levels
as previous designs.
If one compared our current UCM series at 25v/220µF, 6.3×7.7mm using 3 parts on the PCB the designer would require only 2 UCV series parts (25V/330µF, 6.3×7.7mm), saving board space. The UCV is presently offered in 25V and 35V, with a capacitance range of 220µF to 1,000µF. The operating temperature is -55°C to 105°C. It is available in case sizes ranging from 6.3×7.7mm to 10x10mm. Both sample and production quantities are available now.
