R+W has recently developed the BKM series of ULTRA-compact bellows couplings. Utilizing a special two-corrugation bellows, an average of 43% length savings are made possible versus traditional bellows couplings of the same torque rating.
The superior torsional stiffness of the shorter bellows also allows for greater torque capacity within a given outside diameter; often by a factor of 3. While bellows couplings generally possess a relatively very high torsional stiffness already, over the years many requests have been received for flexible couplings with even higher stiffness, allowing system engineers to work with very high frequency feedback loops. While in the past this would have required a special order, the BKM can handle demanding precision requirements, while still compensating for enough lateral, angular and axial misalignment to accommodate most machined servo motor mounts.
The BKM is currently available in torque ratings from 20 ‚– 1000 Nm (177 ‚– 8850 in-lbs.) and can accept English or metric shafts from 15 ‚– 60 mm (.590 ‚– 2.36 in.).
