Ultracapacitor Technology for AGVs

By Editor | September 10, 2012

Share

The replacement of batteries is a constant maintenance task with automated guided vehicles (AGV). Thin cell ultracapacitor modules can reduce the time and effort needed to keep AGVs charged. The iMOD™ THiNCap™ modules consist of high power, thin, flexible ultracapacitor packs, instead of cylindrical cells; so they suit a number of applications where space is limited. AGVs and robotic equipment benefit from the quick charge and long life of the modules, cutting charge times in half and increasing productivity and operating time while eliminating the need for battery replacement or charging.

They can be used for power conditioning and voltage sag compensation in short-term uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) to protect against voltage disruptions, ensuring a smooth power supply to factory equipment and mission-critical applications.

The modules can also reduce cooling requirements as they allow for heat mitigation through double-sided cooling.

Complete systems are available, including DC-DC, to fit a range of applications. The modules also comply with RoHS requirements.

The modules offer low equivalent series resistance (ESR) for higher efficiency and power capabilities. Front terminal products replace or enhance common rack mount battery systems.

Sizes include 19-in., 23-in. wide and greater than 20-in. in depth.

Highest possible energy content per shelf for a capacitor-based system with up to 40 kilowatt (10s) per 4U rack slot; provides up to 101 percent more energy than the competition.
