Ultrasonic Sealing In The Packaging Industry

The use of Herrmann Ultrasonics sealing solutions provides for high quality hermetically sealed bags and pouches that focuses on high throughput and support of sustainability initiatives.

Herrmann Ultrasonics package sealing systems provides the capability to offer, when integrated into automated packaging machines, 100% ultrasonically sealed bags. This includes our latest developments, ultrasonic systems that include 400mm width cross seal capabilities and the sealing of the vertical back seals. Back seals that are created with Herrmann Ultrasonics systems systems include either an overlap seal or a back seal. Advantages of utilizing ultrasonics in the sealing of packages include the ability to seal through product contamination in the seal area, which results in reduced rework and leaker rates, instant machine startup, seal validation and increased overall equipment efficiency rates. Herrmann Ultrasonic sealing systems support sustainability initiatives as well. Utilizing ultrasonics in package sealing offers the capability to decrease package headspace and overall bag dimensions, thereby providing for material savings. The power consumption of ultrasonic systems is significantly less than traditional sealing systems, approximately 80% less, offering overall energy savings. Lastly, ultrasonics utilizes vibrational energy to create a hermetic seal from the inside of the film, at the interface of the seal layers. This capability presents additional film savings by not requiring the need for a laminate structure that includes heat protective outside layers that are required when sealing with traditional sealing systems.
