Video: WEINTEK cMT3090 HMI supports remote access and control

By Lisa Eitel | April 15, 2018

In a recent video with Lee Teschler, we got the chance to run a Weintek USA cMT3090 Human Machine Interface. This HMI extends accessibility to beyond that of typical offerings, because it supports remote access via smartphone or tablet applications.

Until recently machine monitoring and control generally took place near the machine itself. Weintek’s cMT3090 HMI changes this situation by providing remote access by several means. The cMT3090 HMI operates as a conventional HMI with greatly increased performance of data and graphic processing due to its dual-core CPU. Plus it can work as a server to allow remote access from anywhere. Remote access can be through the cMT viewer application or the instant-messaging-like EasyAccess 2.0, OPC-UA, and through the machine to machine connectivity protocol MQTT.

Convenient remote access saves time and allows access to a lot of data that previously went unused. With the features of a traditional HMI, the addition of a built-in cMT server lets the cMT3090 act as a gateway between the plant floor and outside world. Plus the built-in EasyAccess 2.0 option pro-vides a secure VPN connection and encrypted data transmission between a remote PC (or a handheld device or tablet connected to a router) and the cMT3090. Visit the EasyAccess 2.0 software page at weintek.com/globalw/Software/EasyAccess.

The ability to act as a server lets the cMT3090 provide engineers with universal access to controls. It supports more that 300 controller drivers as well as IIoT protocols such as MQTT and OPC UA, and it can connect to third-party devices and management systems thanks to compatibility with SQL database commands.

Remote access through EasyAccess 2.0 — or the cMT Viewer application on handheld devices connected to a router — provides control and monitoring capabilities from a distance. The cMT3090 HMI contains an ultra-high speed 1 GHz dual-core CPU, 4 GB of flash, 1 GB of RAM, a 9.7-in. 1024×768 high-resolution display and dual Ethernet ports. The cMT series also includes the 15-in. cMT3151, the 10.1-in. cMT3103 and the 7-in. cMT3072. For more information, visit the cMT HMI product page.

Access to information at the HMI is a vital part of today’s workspace. That information — whether it be processing data, machine monitoring, or actual machine control — has until recently been a capability restricted to the local vicinity of the machine. The opportunity to expand that access universally has now been provided by Weintek with the introduction of the cMT3090 HMI.

WEINTEK is global-leading HMI manufacturer dedicated to the development, design, and manufacturing of practical HMI solutions in the new IIoT era. WEINTEK LAB’s mission is to provide quality, customizable HMI-solutions that meet the needs of all industrial automation requirements while maintaining customer satisfaction by providing on-demand customer service. Since the North American branch opening of Weintek USA in 2016, Weintek’s innovative technology has been available for direct purchase in the USA and Canada.
