In 2016, Inai Kenanga, with 33,356 m3 hopper volume the largest suction dredger in Asia and the third largest worldwide, was put into operation.
At that time VULKAN supplied a whole range of couplings for the drive train and the sand pump gearboxes, including RATO R and S couplings for the propeller drive and the front end PTO. VULKAN Germany produced 6 MESLU clutches for the sand pump gearboxes. Especially the clutch MESLU 540 is a clutch of superlatives: It has a nominal torque of 390 kNm, a diameter of 1.80m and a total weight of 6.5 tons.
Damage to the ship has submerged the engine compartment, including drive, gearbox and the VULKAN couplings for some time. Due to the necessary coordination between the drive motors and the gearbox with the clutches and shift clutches, VULKAN received the order to either replace or repair the large RATOs and MESLUs and to reinstall the 12 components in the ship.
The first components have already been delivered to Singapore and assembled by VULKAN Singapore, three MESLUs have already been tested for air tightness and the RATO couplings are on their way to Singapore.
The installation in the machine room of Inai Kenanga is planned for the beginning of September 2019.
