Fact: there is a direct correlation between the number of amateur drone pilots and the number of amateur engineers—and they all find a home on YouTube.
YouTuber rctestflight attached a 1,000 Watt LED light bar to the underside of a Freefly Alta 8 drone, and the resulting video of the aircraft, as it casts light on the abandoned buildings and bridges beneath it during its nighttime flight, is nothing short of eerie.
It’s also enough to convince any unsuspecting witnesses that UFOs do, in fact, exist.
To create the exceptional brightness, the drone hobbyist swapped out the cheaper, standard bulbs with Yuji’s high CRI chips, which are brighter and boast more accurate color. He also attached landing gear to the aircraft, as well as an upgraded power source that can keep the light bar and the drone running for ten minutes.
The YouTuber chose the Alta because it comes with bright, navigation LEDs on its arms, making it easy to keep the drone oriented at night. Both the color and brightness of the bulbs can also be adjusted on a smartphone, via Alta’s companion app.
Check out the video of the drone’s beautiful (though mildly haunting) flight below.
