At Sensors Expo 2018, Vishal Kakkad, director of product marketing at Lantronix explains the capabilities of the company’s Embedded Wired Ethernet IoT Gateway called the XPort Edge and software platform called MACH10 Global Device Manager.
In a commercial water filtration system and a collection of data that a company would commonly want to monitor, the typical sensor used in this application are differential pressure sensors, temperature sensors and tank level sensors. The data is combined to calculate the flow rate through membrane and determine when it is time to replace the filter before it is too clogged to be effective.
Without performing any coding, the Lantronix demo is capable of monitoring parameters from the sensors that are going through the gateway. Specific panels of information can be accessed including temperature and flow rate over time as well as selecting specific devices, properties and more through a series of drop down menus. The focus on quick data acquisition and maintenance of historical data.
Powered by a dual-core ARM® SoC, including a 10/100 MAC/PHY, XPort Edge is an industrial grade design for operation in extreme environments (-40 to +80°C). The cloud-ready device has industrial grade security (secure boot, 256-bit AES encryption for secure communications) and can function as a network co-processor or as an MCU.
In addition to pre-integration with MACH10 Global Device Manager for remote manageability, the XPort Edge also is pre-integrated with RESTful application program interface (an API that uses HTTP requests to GET, PUT, POST and DELETE data) and MQTT (a lightweight messaging protocol for small sensors and mobile devices) for easy integration with other Cloud applications.
