Big news in the fluid power industry as Bosch Rexroth Corp. has said that it has signed papers to sell its global pneumatics business—Rexroth Pneumatics—to Triton, a German-Scandinavian investor group. Approximately 2100 employees worldwide will be affected, mostly at manufacturing sites in Laatzen, Germany; Lexington, Kentucky; Wujin, China; Eger, Hungary; and Bonneville, France. . It has been operating as a stand-alone business unit within Bosch Rexroth since June 2013.
“Triton has extensive experience successfully positioning small and medium-sized companies. With this acquisition, we are taking the next consistent and logical step toward ensuring the successful further development of our pneumatics business,” said Karl Tragl, the president of Bosch Rexroth.
In February 2012, the company said it wanted to sell its pneumatics business, claiming that this would allow it to seize additional, long-term growth opportunities outside of the factory automation sector in which it is active.
“Rexroth Pneumatics has the potential to benefit from market growth driven by an increasing global trend towards automation. We are confident that focused investment will enable the company to operate successfully as a stand-alone entity,” said Peder Prahl, Director of the General Partner of the Triton funds.
“The sale of our activities to Triton, an owner with broad experience in the successful management of medium sized companies, was the next logical step in the successful development of our pneumatics business,” said Tragl.
Founded in 1997, the investment firm Triton invests in medium-size businesses headquartered in Northern Europe with a focus on Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Within this European region, Triton focuses on businesses in the industrial, business services, and consumer/healthcare sectors. Rexroth Pneumatics, headquartered in Hannover/Laatzen, Germany, has been a part of Bosch Rexroth since the merger of Bosch Automation and Rexroth Pneumatics in 2001.
