Shadows cast by observational lights make it difficult to use automated devices to place materials on printed circuit boards (PCBs).
For example, with the screener, a semiautomatic machine, the operator adds solder paste to the PCB. Because of the system’s lighting design, the operator’s head casts a shadow that blocks light from entering the unit. Using LEDtronics’ Super-Intensity Sealed Backlight LED Modules, operators can easily inspect the surface of the PCB because light flows from within the machine itself.
Shadows in pick-and-place units also prevent the operator from observing whether the head is correctly positioning the components on the solder pads of the PCB. The cool, white, LED light emitted by six LEDtronics’ Super-Intensity Sealed Backlight Modules gives a clear view of the PCB. The operator does not have to remove the entire PCB from the machine for inspection.
