New EPLAN Cogineer automates generation of schematics

By Taylor Meade | April 17, 2017

EPLAN is launching EPLAN Cogineer, a new software package that generates schematics automatically, at the 2017 Hannover Trade Fair later this month. “We’ve developed a solution that is easy to use, yet very innovative,” says Dieter Pesch, EPLAN’s Senior Vice President of Product Management and Development. The major benefits  are time saved and error avoidance. While EPLAN Cogineer is suitable for projects of any size, it can save huge amounts of engineering time – days or even weeks – in large or complex projects with many schematics, typical of what one encounters nowadays in modular machine or systems design.

With just one click, EPLAN Cogineer
can generate complete electro-technical documentation. This ensures the error-free implementation of all defined rules and structures, guaranteeing high quality documentation and potentially shortening the entire order fulfilment timeline.

EPLAN Cogineer is fully integrated into the EPLAN Platform shared by EPLAN Electric P8 and other EPLAN software products. This allows users to create project data in EPLAN Electric P8, and then generate the schematics using that data in EPLAN Cogineer without any duplication of effort. “One hundred percent data continuity from design to construction allows EPLAN Cogineer users to precisely process customer projects without delay,” says Pesch.

EPLAN Cogineer is designed to be an easily deployable tool for occasional users and power users alike. It does not require a long learning curve; thanks to the intuitive user interface, designers can generate their first project within a short period of time. Expert knowledge about configuration or variant management isn´t required – just standard knowledge of how to use macros. A mechatronic rulebook and configuration interfaces can be put together intuitively – and quickly – without knowledge of any high-level programming languages. Nor does it matter if schematics are generated based on the functional structures or from the system-specific perspective.
