Kontron, a provider of embedded computing technology, presents its latest ultra-low-power SMARC sXQU with Intel® Quark™ X1000 series processors. Thanks to the Intel Quark 32-Bit-x86 system architecture, the new Computer-on-Module is even smaller and more energy-saving than the predecessor version with an Atom processor. Both the slim design and the mobile feature set are perfect for the smallest portable handheld devices. Thanks to its robust design and immunity to high temperatures, applications in industrial environments are no problem. The energy-efficient and compact module makes it the ideal platform for all types of projects in the “Internet of Things”.
The SMARC-sXQU was developed specifically for applications in which lower energy consumption and smaller product dimensions take precedence over higher performance. The products from the Intel Quark processor family fitted in the SMARC-sXQU are the basis for innovative solutions in the field of ubiquitous computing markets and the Internet of Things. These include, for example, applications in the automotive industry or even the use of wearables. “The SMARC-sXQU provides greater flexibility at higher integration levels and is more efficient in use in terms of both cost and energy consumption. That makes the module ideal for the next wave of smart interconnected devices, with which we can create extremely energy-efficient IoT applications based on x86 technology,” says Daniel Piper, Senior Marketing Manager EMEA at Kontron.
The Kontron SMARC-sXQU in detail
The new Kontron SMARC-sXBTi Computer-on-Modules have been developed in compliance with the SGET specification and equipped with Intel® Quark™ X1000 series processors, as well as up to 1 GB DDR3 RAM, with the option of ECC. They support the extended temperature range from -40 °C to +85 °C and measure only 82 mm x 50 mm. Other interfaces include 2x 10/100 MBit Ethernet LAN (1x via AFB signals), 1x USB 2.0 Client und 2x USB 2.0 Host. Customer-specific upgrades can be implemented via SDIO and 2x PCIe and 2x serial. The power supply is only 3V- 5.25 V.
The SMARC-sXQU is available from the end of December 2014.
