The Turcon Stepseal V prevents pressure buildup in some tandem seal arrangements. Features include a hydrostatic pressure relief system for rapid pressure actuation and pressure balancing; and a machined valve groove that precisely opens and closes the relief channel.
The Stepseal is made from a PTFE based material that resists wear and abrasion. What’s more, it has a countoured rear chamfer for hydrodynamic back-pumping to further reduce dynamic friction and breakaway force. On the forward stroke of the shaft, an oil-lubricating film spreads out under the seal. On the return stroke, the oil is back-pumped into the system, preventing leakage.
Operating temperature is from -45 to 200° C (-49 to 392° F). Speeds are to 15 m/s, with reciprocating movements and frequencies to 5 Hz in pressures to 80 Mpa, 800 bar, or 11,600 psi.
