Midwest’s compact yet powerful Planetary DC Gearmotor

By Motion Control Tips Editor | May 4, 2012

Midwest Motion Products, Inc. (www.midwestmotion.com) (MMP) has announced the release of its latest DC Gear Motor, Model Number: MMP-D33-455D-48V GP81-03.7. Although it is compact and lightweight, the new gearmotor is powerful and is ideal for use in solar trackers, robotics and automation applications.

Generating a torque of 18 lb in at 782 rpm, this high power gearmotor features a unique design that is rated with an IP 54 protection level, making it suitable for use in harsh environments.

It measures just 8.4 inches long with 3.2 inches diameter and accepts any 48 Volt DC source, which includes battery power. In addition, it features a keyed output shaft that is 19 mm in diameter and 40 mm in length.

The versatile design of the gearmotor can accommodate a failsafe brake, including an optical encoder, while its variable speed can be achieved using the company’s fully compatible speed controls. Also available are Power On brake designs.

The fully reversible gearmotor can be easily mounted as it offers a four face mount M6 threaded holes, which are spaced equally on a 65 mm Dia. B.C. or a NEMA34 Flange (optional). Weighing around 10 pounds, the gearmotor delivers an output that is rated for a continuous torque of 18 in-lbs at 782 rpm, and a peak of 354 in-lbs. To generate its full-load torque, its efficient design requires only 5.1 Amps at 48 Volts DC, which leads to longer battery charge, lower cost drive electronics and low noise operation.

MMP also offers motor windings for 12 V, 18 V, 24 V, 28 V, 36 V, 42 V, 60 V and 90 Volts.
