A research team has challenged the limits of traditional fused deposition modeling by 3D printing a 50 foot chain in a 5” x 5” x 6.5” envelope. By developing Hyperform, the team has created computational and material folding strategies that could lead to printing incredibly large objects on tiny platforms.
