Rexroth IndraControl XM series programmable logic controllers integrate I/O for speed and flexibility

By Lisa Eitel | February 16, 2017

Bosch Rexroth’s IndraControl XM21/22 programmable logic controller further contributes to the speed and flexibility of the IndraControl XM series.

The Rexroth family of programmable logic controllers, XM 12/21/22, integrates the modular IndraControl S20 I/O series into the controller. When combined with the Sercos automation bus, speed and flexibility are added to make one functionally complete and scalable control system. The IndraControl XM platform is easy to configure and features high-performance real-time data processing capabilities.

IndraControl XM 21/22 —Easy and flexible system configuration with modular I/O expansion

Bosch Rexroth’s IndraControl XM21/22 programmable logic controllers (PLC) combine the speed of the Sercos automation bus with the IndraControl S20 input/output (I/O) series for one functionally complete and scalable control system. The controllers are available with either an Intel® 600 or 1,300 MHz ATOM processor (XM21/22), along with an onboard Sercos master featuring a cycle time as low as 250 µs.

The XM 12: Lower cost solution for medium-power applications

Rexroth’s IndraControl XM12 expands the XM range to provide scaled modularity and a fully functional control system for less demanding factory automation applications. The XM12 is a modern control platform with a powerful dual core Cortex A9 processor and on-board Sercos master for clocked fieldbus connections.

Flexibility, high performance real-time processing

Ideal for all factory automation and motion logic applications, the IndraControl XM platform is easy to configure and features high-performance real-time data processing capabilities.

By integrating the company’s modular IndraControl S20 I/O series into the controller, Rexroth adds to the flexibility of the control system. Optional extension modules further expand the integration options, while a service-friendly design reduces installation costs.

Decentralized I/Os, drives and additional system machinery are connected by Ethernet-based Sercos as a universal automation bus for system-wide networking. Enhancing the scalability, the XM controller uses Rexroth’s standard IndraMotion MLC system firmware for motion logic applications.

Compatible with a wide range of control topologies, the IndraControl S20 I/O units feature short module reaction times of 1 µs per module for efficient production cycles and real-time signal processing of measuring systems and intelligent sensors, even under extreme conditions.

Ready for Connected Industry

The XM12/21/22 controllers were built with connected industry in mind. All fully utilize the features of Rexroth’s Open Core Interface, opening the door to multiple software development environments using a standard SDK, tailored for each development software. This allows integration into a wide range of systems, for a truly connected solution.
