Super caps hit 3,500 Farads for energy storage apps

By Paul Dvorak | December 13, 2012

The expanded DCN Series includes more values, now ranging in capacitance from 1F (Farad) to 3,500F, with voltage ratings from 2.7 to 5.5 WVdc.

The DCN series of super capacitors offers capacitance values to 3,500 Farads, while maintaining small case sizes. Custom modules are also available to combine multiple capacitors for combinations of higher voltage ratings or capacitance.

The expanded DCN Series includes more values, now ranging from 1F (Farad) to 3,500F, with voltage ratings from 2.7 to 5.5 WVdc. Operating temperature ranges from -40 to 60°C for extended life performance in many applications.

The manufacturer says DCN super capacitors are an excellent choice for battery replacements or supplements. Unlike batteries, they do not degrade with each cycle. At 2.7V, DCN load life is rated at 86,700 hours. Operating life is rated at 10 years with 500,000 cycles. DCN Series capacitors are packaged with various termination styles and case diameters, depending on values. The parts are also fully RoHS compliant. Like other IC capacitors, each DCN Series capacitor is 100% burn-in tested. Prices start at $0.70 for a 10F at 2.7V. Delivery: stock to 45 days for production quantities.
