Tec-Flex Modular Assembly System

By Patrick Curran | August 24, 2009

Tec-Option announces the release of its latest product, the “Tec-Flex” system. “Tec-Flex” is an ultra-flexible assembly system that combines many processes into a single machine. At the heart of the system is an interchangeable tooling plate that can support processes such as spot welding, fastener welding, hole piercing, bushing insertion, part marking and more. These tooling plates are accessible from the rear of the machine which allows for even more processes to be performed, such as MIG welding, robot welding and material handling. Because the system is modular, the tooling plate can be exchanged with another to take advantage of unused machine time. The removed tooling can be taken to the maintenance area for PM or cleaning, without disturbing current production.

The tooling plates are designed with mechanical and electrical poka-yokes to ensure that parts are loaded correctly. The integrated clamps and anti-removal devices contain the part(s) until the entire process is complete and error-free. Advanced programming techniques allow for fault recovery at nearly every level of assembly to reduce scrap from unfinished parts. The control system is built with reliable Allen-Bradley components, which are common in many industrial machines, and familiar with many installation sites. Daily operating parameters are available through password-protected screens to reduce the need for technical personnel or specialized equipment and software. All these features work together to form a hard-working, quality ensured assembly machine that can be relied upon for many years of service.

Optional equipment allows even more room for improvement to cycle time, part rate and flexibility. Dual Stations increase machine time to nearly 100% for part runs, maximizing machine productivity and labor resources. Dual Fixtures mean twice the number of parts per machine cycle. Servo Positioning allows for an unlimited number of positions on the tooling plate for maximum usable workspace, reduces expensive air resources for motion, and virtually guarantees future part compatibility. An Auto-Unload feature unloads the part, allowing the operator to concentrate on fewer tasks. Used in conjunction with a Conveyor, parts can be routed directly to a bin for the next process or for shipping without an operator handling the part. If required, a Vision System can be used for final part inspection. These options enhance an already efficient assembly system and are customized to fit your application(s).
