A new spray-on, self-healing coating developed at the University of Michigan promises to repel water even after a surface has been scratched. The coating was created by a team of researchers led by Anish Tuteja, associate professor of materials science and engineering and associate professor of macromolecular science and engineering. The researchers claim the coating is hundreds of times more durable than its counterparts and could enable waterproofing of vehicles, clothing, rooftops, and other surfaces.
