Travel Drive Gearboxes from Bonfiglioli

By Patrick Curran | February 9, 2013

The market for large mining machines demands the highest levels of performance and reliability. Large mining and quarrying machines work uninterruptedly to achieve strict productivity targets. Operators simply cannot afford machine stoppages or system malfunctions.

The design of key components for these applications therefore demands a careful choice of technology as well as a high level of innovation.

Thanks to years of investment and hard work by Bonfiglioli Trasmital’s R&D department, these requirements are fully satisfied by the company’s three latest sizes of travel gearbox for tracked mining machines and large cranes and drilling rigs.

Bonfiglioli is presenting three new product sizes – 722C, 724C and 726C – all incorporating decades of experience in this type of application.

These new products will extend the company’s historical range of tracked travel drives. They guarantee all the benefits of decades of specialist experience and incorporate advanced technical solutions specifically designed for heavy duty machines. The 722C develops a maximum torque of up to 330,000 Nm, making it suitable for use on excavators of 120 to 150 tons and cranes and drilling rigs of 180 to 230 tons. The 724C develops a maximum torque of up to 450,000 Nm, and is specially designed for large cranes and drilling rigs (up to 300 tons). Finally, the 726C transmits a maximum torque of up to 625,000 Nm, satisfying the travel drive needs of excavators of up to 350 tons and cranes and drilling rigs of up to 400 tons.

Fausto Carboni, Bonfiglioli Trasmital’s GM, said, “This expansion in our traditional 7C range of gearboxes has opened doors to an area of industry we want to develop. And we are determined to invest further to become our customers’ preferred supplier. The mining market plays a key role in our development strategy and this is only the beginning of our development of dedicated solutions for it.”
