Cyberattacks can be implemented in a variety of ways, with ransomware being one of the most common methods for hackers. To clarify, ransomware is malicious software that blocks access to a computer system or network, until a sum of money is paid. What makes ransomware so dangerous is this kind of attack can happen anywhere to anybody—from ordinary individuals like you and me, to networks of private companies and public institutions. A report published back in November projected ransomware damages from attacks around the world will cost over $5 billion in 2017. This is a significant increase from 2015 ($325 million), with costs projected to increase by 15X. As with all cybercrime, there are steps you can take to protect your data and yourself from succumbing to one of these attacks. The video below goes into more detail on these measures that can be practiced by your company and yourself.
