New software from NEi Nastran lets engineers virtually test air, land, and maritime vehicles and components for mechanical stress, deformation, vibration, thermal and other technical parameters at the design stage, before the fabrication of prototypes or parts. The virtual test technology includes Automated Impact Analysis (AIA‚â„¢), composite material modeling and Progressive Ply Failure Analysis (PPFA‚â„¢), Automated Surface Contact Generation (ASCG‚â„¢), and Design Optimization.
AIA is used for a variety of impact scenarios from military projectiles to drop testing of electronics like cell phones and laptops. PPFA analyzes composite damage. Composites are a frequent material choice in unmanned systems because of such characteristics as high strength to weight ratio and stealth. ASCG eliminates the time consuming aspects of realistic simulation of contact in assemblies. Design Optimization finds answers to problems that have competing parameters, for example, structures that must be both strong and light.
