Canada’s two largest carriers are taking after the likes of AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Telus, Canada’s second-largest telco, is suing Rogers over advertisements that claim Rogers’ network is faster and more reliable than Telus’ network.
In a document filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Telus alleges that Rogers’ claims to the fastest and most reliable network became false after Telus upgraded its own 21Mbps HSPA+ network earlier this month.
Rogers is standing by its claims, citing independent third-party testing, which found its network was superior to Telus’ network. Rogers’ HSPA network also includes an EDGE network. Telus’ upgraded network has not yet undergone third-party testing and does not include an EDGE network.
Telus wants Rogers to stop the ads; pay for damages resulting from the ads; and admit it ignored standards in Canada’s Competition Act.
Telus shares its network with Bell Canada, who is not involved in the lawsuit.
