BlackBerry today announced it will begin offering BBM Money, its secure mobile payments platform, to Android and iOS users in Indonesia.
The expansion comes after the service was initially launched in early 2013 for BlackBerry users. BBM Money allows users to make secure payments at participating retailers and online.
With a new partnership with TransferTo in place, BBM Money will also now allow users to send prepaid mobile credits to their overseas contacts. TransferTo works with more than 350 operators in more than 100 countries with an estimated reach of 3.6 billion prepaid users.
BlackBerry sees Indonesia as an important market for mobile payments. Indonesia only has 11 percent debit card penetration and the second highest rate of e-commerce growth, the company said in a statement.
Earlier this year BlackBerry announced BBM Channels in order to allow brands and businesses to have a presence on BBM.
TransferTo integration will come to BBM Money later this year and Android and iOS users can expect to access BBM Money by 2015.
