The scrapers installed in hydraulic cylinders are critical to the proper function of the system. They wipe away contaminants and moisture from the piston rods as they retract to prevent contamination of the hydraulic medium. When pressure build-up behind the scraper occurs, the scraper can be pushed out of the groove, causing total system failure. Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has developed a venting version of its double-acting Zurcon‚® Scraper DA24 that incorporates axial holes that function as pressure relief valves to release oil in the event of overpressure. This can prevent damage to rings, seals, and other components.
The DA24 protects against ingress of dirt, external media, and moisture; demonstrates efficient
sealing behavior; generates a limited amount of heat; and has stability in the groove securing function. It suits aggressive environments with a high level of external contamination and dirt, such as off-road vehicle applications.
It is made from Zurcon‚®, a thermoplastic polyurethane material specially developed for sealing applications that provides long service life under harsh working conditions and resistance against installation damage.
