Advanced Power Electronics (San Jose, CA) has launched a new step-up converter capable of efficiently driving up to eight white LEDs in series for backlighting applications. The APE1612-3 uses current mode, 1.2 MHz fixed frequency architecture to regulate the LED current, which is set using an external current sense resistor. Features include:
- Low 300 mV feedback voltage that reduces power loss and improves efficiency.
- OV pin monitors output voltage and turns off converter if an over-voltage condition is present due to an open circuit condition.
- Under-voltage lockout, current limiting, and thermal shutdown protection prevents damage from an output overload.
