NKK’s KB Pushbuttons Simplify Demanding Designs

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – NKK Switches, an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of electromechanical switches, offers the KB series of miniature, illuminated and non-illuminated pushbutton devices designed for a wide range of industrial applications and consumer electronics.

The KB series, which simplify even the most demanding designs, feature many unique characteristics including molded-in terminals to lock out flux, dust and other contaminants, a compact body size of 12mm diameter for standard panel cutouts, and an 8mm panel thickness mounting capability.  Additionally, these KB pushbutton switches feature a snap-action contact mechanism ensuring long life and high contact reliability. The KB switches are UL Recognized and CSA Certified. All models feature UL94V-0 case material.

Design engineers can specify three cap shapes, round, rectangular or square. Panel cutout remains round for easier installation regardless of cap shape. Circuit options available include single and double pole in momentary or alternate configurations. Alternate circuits feature a latch down position, instantly indicating circuit status. Audible and tactile feedback with responsive operation is standard.

The KB series has solder lug terminals and can be ordered in snap-in or bushing mount models. Barrier style cap frames are also available. Snap-in versions feature a stainless steel frame, which is specially designed to prevent rotation and correctly orients the switch in the panel. Bushing mount models facilitate rear panel mounting.

KB illuminated devices offer a vast array of options for front panel appearance and design engineering requirements. Their aesthetic value and brilliant illumination ensure a pleasing operator interface. Designers can specify LED, neon or incandescent illumination options, in which each device can be easily re-lamped from the front panel if needed.  LED options include a choice of bright or super bright LED’s in red, amber, green, blue or white. Matching indicators can also be specified and spot illuminated styles are available.

Differing cap styles and cap constructions are designed to enhance the illumination of choice. In order to allow for the legending that many applications demand, caps are constructed to accommodate varying methods of applying legends. Design engineers can utilize NKK’s Legend Maker, an online tool created specifically to aid in panel design. The online CAD tool takes engineers step-by-step through the creation and specification process and allows engineers the convenience of immediately proofing their legends. Legend packets are also available by request directly from NKK or can be downloaded from www.nkkswitches.com

Offering a choice of silver or gold contacts, the KB is rated at either 1A @ 125/250V or 1A @ 30V DC for power models. Logic level devices are rated at 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum. The mechanical life for all versions is 100,000 operations minimum.

Further complimenting the KB series are a choice of valuable accessories. PC adapters are available in straight and right angle 90° mounts. Protective guards are designed to prevent accidental actuation, and splash covers are stock options. Decorative barriers enhance any front panel design and in addition can be used to facilitate high-density side-by-side mounting. A partitioned plastic guard is supplied with each switch to provide insulation between terminals.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry’s most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches. The company manufactures more than four million toggle, rocker, pushbutton, slide, rotary and DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches. NKK Switches maintains a complete network of qualified representatives and distributors through the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.

NKK Switches is keenly aware of the myriad of issues that are covered under the RoHS directive.  With more than 50 years of experience in the switch industry and as an environmentally-conscious company, NKK is committed to not only providing high quality products and services, but also providing environmentally safe products for its valued customers.  NKK continues to lead the industry in responding to the needs of the marketplace with innovation, high reliability and a commitment to excellence.
