Inspecting beverage bottles can be a time-consuming and costly process because some inspection systems use linear video cameras that cannot generate sufficient product information. The 2D images from systems do not ensure that the labels will be placed accurately. As a result, manual checking slows inspection and makes production more complex.
OmniView software lets inspection technicians view full 3D images of bottles.
Italian-based FT Systems integrated Cognex’s OmniView software in its IE4000 beverage label inspection machines to improve and fully automate bottle inspection. Each IE4000 machine uses four cameras to capture all surfaces of each bottle as they pass through the machine.
An FT Systems IE4000 label inspection machine takes the guesswork out of labelling.
The software processes the four images and displays them as one 3D representation of each bottle. All surfaces can be inspected simultaneously. The software eliminates the time and costs to mechanically rotate the bottles. Full inspection can be completed without human contact at a rate of 1,000 ppm.
The inspection machines are equipped with four cameras to obtain accurate surface information for proper labelling.
FT Systems’ customers use the IE4000 machines to guarantee that perfectly labelled bottles reach the beverage industry with no defects. Today, the machines can inspect from 10,000 to 50,000 bottles per hour.
