When sensors combine with a CAD system
This mountain bike from Santa Cruz is modeled in the parametric CAD program from PTC and instrumented with sensors to measure wheel speed, pedal cadence, annular and linear compression of the suspension, and the angle of the handlebars. The sensor data is monitored by a myRIO computer and then beamed wirelessly to a PTC IoT platform. As you pedal the wheels, sensor data reports in real time and displays on a digital twin of bike displaying on this iPad. We’ve called out the force vectors and displacement values that are displaying on the tablet as the real bike moves. This capability lets engineers analyze the bike as real forces happen and gives them a view of how the bike behaves in the real world. They can also play back previous sequences to understand, for example, how a component failed.
