CDM’s interconnect solutions support most recent Positive Train Control initiatives

CDM-Electronics-PTC.7.17-train-cable-assembliesCDM Electronics, a distributor of electronic connectors and cables, today announced the availability of a comprehensive array of semi-custom and custom cable assemblies optimized to meet the latest requirements of Positive Train Control (PTC) systems that are designed to prevent train-to-train collisions, derailments caused by excessive speeds, unauthorized train movements in work zones, and the movement of trains through switches left in the wrong position. CDM’s PTC Coaxial/RF and Ethernet (RJ45) assemblies and interconnect systems are specifically engineered to ensure the functionally and reliability of PTC wireless networks, and are provided in a variety of configurations, including those featuring low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH).

CDM’s semi-custom and custom cable assemblies are ideal for employment in the full spectrum of PTC systems, regardless of their complexity, sophistication, level of automation, functionality being implemented and system architecture utilized, including wayside systems (e.g., non-signaled, block signal, cab signal, etc.) and the degree of train control. They are most commonly used to support onboard locomotives and rolling stock, communication/antenna towers, wayside interface units (WIU), base stations, signal, switch and operations control, and SCADA systems. Assemblies are equally appropriate in signal crossing gates, railway, and surface transit station systems.

Assemblies are manufactured using Times Microwave’s LMR series low-loss cables, which are self-healing and feature an operating temperature range of –40° to 185° F. Low-smoke zero-halogen assemblies meet all applicable CMR, UL/NEC, CSA and NFPA safety requirements. Lightning and surge protection products operate in the frequency range from dc up to, and including 6 GHz. To provide the utmost in design flexibility, coaxial/RF connector options include BNC, N-Type, SMA and TNC interfaces in both cable- and surface-mount formats. Ethernet cables are offered with straight, right- and left-facing RJ45 interconnects. Coaxial/RF custom and semi-custom cable assemblies are 100% American made in CDM’s ISO 9001:2008 and UL Listed facility in Turnersville, N.J. Most assemblies are RoHS-Compliant.
