ODU, Camarillo, Calif., is introducing to the North American market the IEC 60601-1 compliant ODU Medi-Snap Advanced plastic circular connector.
The ODU Medi-Snap is a lightweight and cost efficient plastic circular connector with high chemical resistance ideal for medical, industrial, and test and measurement applications. This autoclavable connector is available both with user-friendly push-pull locking and the easy-to-release break-away function with over 2,000 mating cycles.
The IEC 60601-1 medical standard requires the devices and their components to provide the maximum level of protection from electric shock. This includes two integrated protection measures against electric shock, both for patients and for operators (2 MOPP or 2 MOOP).
Five of the new ODU Medi-Snap receptacles already fulfill the requirements in mated condition for the highest level of patient and operator protection (2 MOPP and 2 MOOP). The other eight receptacles and in-line receptacles provide one means of protection for patients (1 MOPP) and further achieve 2 MOOP when together with power supplies that have a means of protection installed in them.
For additional connections, the ODU Medi-Snap series also includes specialized connectors with modified insulation pin layouts which are capable of achieving 2 MOPP and 2 MOOP as stand-alone solutions. These pin layouts include the 5-pin break-away connector, into which two means of protection are already integrated into the pin layout and the 3-pin push-pull connector in which the insulation body has also been modified in order to fulfill the highest requirements of the 2 MOPP and 2 MOOP.
