Portescap Receives Supplier Award from SICK

By Design World Staff | April 3, 2007

WEST CHESTER, PA — Portescap, a Danaher Motion Company and industry-leading provider of miniature and specialty motors, recently received the Supplier Award for excellent performance from SICK AG, Germany. This award is given annually in recognition of SICK AG, Germany partner companies who exceed expectations in the fields of product setup, quality, and logistics.

“Delivering miniature and specialty motion control solutions with industry-leading quality, on time, and within budget, is Portescap’s highest priority. We think this award evidences that commitment; and are honored to be in partnership with SICK AG and recognized by their management team for product and operational excellence,” says BW Cheong, Managing Director for Portescap Singapore and Portescap Malaysia.

SICK and Portescap are collaborating on a handful of key projects that incorporate Portescap miniature motors. Portescap’s Disc Magnet Stepper Motors are well suited to one of SICK’s scanning applications because of their precise, high resolution operation within a compact physical envelope. Additionally, the Disc Magnet Motor technology — with its high acceleration and open loop control platform — is a cost effective alternative to conventional brushless servo products.

“Our team quickly and cost-effectively customized a Portescap Disc Magnet Motor to suit the specific application requirements. We were able to deliver a faster motor in a smaller frame size than previous motors they had been using, which allowed SICK to reduce the size of their product while improving its performance,” notes Dr. Norbert Veignat, Managing Director for Portescap Europe. About SICK SICK is one of the world’s leading producers of sensors and sensor solutions for industrial applications. SICK is a technology and market leader in factory automation, logistic automation and process automation industries.
