Machine builders and fluid reservoir suppliers are no longer stuck using discrete (high-low) level switches for feedback because of price. That’s because MTS SystemsCorp. Sensors Division has developed a new line of liquid level sensors that use similar Temposonics magnetostrictive sensing technology found in its other sensors, but at a lower cost.
The current ML product line has a small envelope, IP65-sealed housing, and gauging to 250mm. The company plans to release measurement capabilities to 1500mm soon. Sensors are available with stainless steel housings, popular plastic housings, or as an embeddable core sensor. Standard outputs will include 0 Vdc to 5Vdc and 4mA to 20mA, with an input voltage of 12 Vdc.
Applications include steel production, wood processing, and form and fabrication industries. The ML housings come in a range of materials to accommodate applications in a wide variety of fluids that are part of heavy production equipment, including hydraulic oil and cooling water.
