Raytheon has been awarded an $86.2 million Army contract modification for the delivery of radar digital processor (RDP) upgrade kits which will be used to improve the Army’s Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense System.
The contract will enhance the system’s ability to spot and destroy threats. The system will also be cheaper to operate and maintain and will be have a 40 percent higher reliability rate that the system had with its legacy component, Raytheon claimed in a Monday press release intended to provide more detail on the Sept. 30 announcement of the agreement.
While the government began improving the Army’s Patriot fleet in 2013, the recent modification will ensure that the entire fleet is improved upon.
“When one country develops an upgrade or improvement to Patriot, that capability is made available to the entire 13-nation Partnership,” said Ralph Acaba, Raytheon’s V.P. of Integrated Air and Missile Defense. “With more than 220 Patriot fire units owned by 13 countries, countries whose industrial bases participate in manufacturing Patriot have a very large potential export market.”
