James Mecredy named aerospace and defense Global Market Manager for Bal Seal Engineering

mcredyBal Seal Engineering, Inc. has named James Mecredy to the position of Global Market Manager for its aerospace and military/defense market. In this role, Mecredy will help industry OEMs and tier suppliers improve equipment uptime, reliability, and precision. He will be based at the company’s Foothill Ranch, CA, headquarters.

According to Bal Seal Director of Business Development David Fogel, Mecredy’s appointment underscores the company’s “continued and deepening commitment” to the aerospace and defense industry. Bal Seal Engineering’s shielding and sealing solutions enable advanced military equipment and commercial aircraft to operate efficiently and effectively in increasingly complex environments.

“Our products shield sensitive electronics from electromagnetic interference in cutting-edge tracking and targeting systems and offer low-friction sealing of gimbal and pod modules. Mecredy will take advantage of growing demand for such products in manned and unmanned equipment, and he will also focus on more conventional pneumatic and hydraulic applications within engine, wheel, and brake systems,” Fogel says.

“The aerospace market, particularly gimbal design, is changing rapidly as manufacturers look to achieve the right mix of friction, leak rate, and service life in their gimbal designs,” says Fogel. “Naming Mecredy as our dedicated manager is part of our strategy to ensure that we address the needs of this market as it strives to make these advancements.” Fogel says the new market manager will also help aero/defense engineers leverage the three-in-one fastening, conducting, and shielding capabilities of the company’s proven Bal Spring canted coil spring to reduce system weight and complexity.

Mecredy, who holds a degree in business management, has worked in multiple sales, marketing, and operations positions in the aerospace industry, most recently as head of a consulting firm focused on complex machined components for aerospace products. In his new role, he will serve a worldwide customer base, working with design engineers and the Bal Seal Engineering sales force to create custom components for next-generation UAVs, as well as many other platforms such as ground robotics and man-worn field systems.

“Bal Seal has had great success in the aerospace and defense market,” says Mecredy, “and we know that there is great potential for growth. By continuing to innovate with products like low-friction seals and precision springs that allow for reliable, repeatable fastening and current carrying, we’re helping customers design for tomorrow.”

Mecredy will represent Bal Seal at the Eurosatory show, held June 13–17 in Paris, France. At the company’s booth, he will showcase the low-friction Bal Seal® spring-energized seal, which, according to the company, has been shown to achieve a low dynamic coefficient of friction, a key driver of gimbal design in UAVs.
