Now you see it, now you don’t
Active grille shutters have been around for a while, but among the newest wrinkles to the technology is what Röchling Automotive is calling the ambient active grille shutter, or Ambient AGS. It puts light pipes into each of the shutter vanes that are fed by LEDs on each side of the grille. When the shutter is closed you see a stipe of color on each vane. Though the demo unit uses white LED lights, Röchling says any color can be incorporated.
