Even your windshield washer will soon have its own MCU
If your car depends on the emissions from a radar sensor to keep it moving through traffic, you can’t afford to have the sensor caked with mud. So it will soon become mandatory for autonomous and semiautonomous vehicles to have a sensor cleaning system. That’s the idea behind Röchling Automotive’s Advanced Active Cleaning System (AACS). It is basically an enhanced windshield washer system, the reservoir of which is in the photo. When the AACS’s digital platform sense that a part needs cleaning, it figures out the necessary fluid dosage and a pressure regulation of the pump. An integrated thermal management system optimizes the water temperature. In addition, the system monitors the liquid level within the tank, so it can prioritize the areas that need cleaning based on their importance for safety.
